everyday help and tips Anonymous & free

What is Arkikahvila?

Arkikahvila is a free Finnish meeting place where people talk about everyday life and getting by — and where you can quickly find help when money is tight. Like in a café: you come as you are, and no one asks for papers at the door.

Anonymity is a promise, not an extra feature

Here you need no real name, email or sign-in to read and use the tools. To write, a self-chosen nickname is enough. The benefit survey's answers are processed only in your own browser and are not stored with us.

Why? Because money worries cause shame quite needlessly — and shame stops people seeking help they are entitled to. Anonymously, you dare to ask the question you wouldn't ask face to face.

Anonymity is for removing shame — not for hiding income or obligations. All the methods we advise are openly legal, with no concealment of anything.

Ground rules

Here people chat, ask and share tips. Here no one sells, buys, lends money or recruits for anything. Others are treated with respect — many here are in a tight spot, and no one's situation is belittled or dug into out of curiosity. Moderators remove inappropriate messages.

How is this funded?

Arkikahvila is always free for users. Costs are covered with carefully chosen partner places and ads, which are always clearly marked as ads.

Our public promise: ads for payday loans, consumer credit or gambling are never shown here. We don't fund the service with what sinks our users deeper.

The maker of Arkikahvila also runs HimaKirppis, a local flea-market service — which is why we recommend it for selling your own things. It too is free for users.

Where does the information come from — and can it be trusted?

Information on benefits, enforcement and tax matters is gathered from official sources (Kela, the Enforcement Authority, the Tax Administration, the wellbeing services counties) and marked with a check date. The rules change often — if you notice outdated information, tell us and we'll correct it. The page's information is guidance: the final decisions are always made by Kela, the municipality or another authority.

The information on food aid points is kept up to date together: users confirm, in connection with their visits, whether the information still holds true.

About cookies: Arkikahvila can be read and used without signing in, and we do not track you. A necessary cookie only remembers this choice and your nickname, if you create one. If you accept all, we additionally use Google Analytics for visitor statistics and our advertising partners to show ads — both set cookies and require your consent. Read more
